How to Request umd-iot Device Registration

Overview:

There are some cases where we need to connect a shared smart device on Campus, and we either can’t use Eduroam or prefer not to use it (since it's shared among several users). This device is probably a good candidate for the “umd-iot” wireless network.

The umd-iot wireless network is not intended for computers, tablets, smartphones, or any other device compatible with eduroam.

Register your device

In order to connect a device to the iot network, you must first registered it and get a device specific password. The Athletics IT staff can help with this registration, they just need to know what your device wireless MAC address is.

How do I find my MAC address?

In general, you will find MAC addresses in the system settings, general information, or network settings/status of your device. Occasionally, the MAC address is printed on a label affixed to the bottom of a device.

It is important to note that manufacturers sometimes use different names to describe the MAC address, such as Hardware ID, Physical Address, Wireless ID, Wi-Fi Address, etc.
