How To Securely Share Files via UMD Secure Share
Overview
UMD Secure Share is the recommended method for sharing files securely across campus. Secure Share is recommended for files containing potentially sensitive data, as opposed to email attachments. Secure Share is approved to send data that are categorized up to a High Classification (Please refer to the following link to determine what your data is classified as). To use UMD Secure Share to send files, please follow the steps below.
Sending Files as a UMD Student/Faculty/Staff
- Navigate to https://secureshare.umd.edu/.
- Login to your UMD account via the SSO Login.
- Enter the desired recipient's email(s).
- Drag or Upload files under "Attached Files" on the right-hand side (Limit 1 GB per message).
- Indicate expiration details as desired; click send when complete.
- The recipient will receive an email with a link to privately view the email/attachment. (Individuals will be required to either login or create an account to view, verifiable by email).
- The message will expire when the previously specified conditions are met.

How To Invite a User to Send Files From Outside UMD.
- Navigate to https://secureshare.umd.edu/.
- Login to your UMD account via the SSO login
- Select the settings icon at the top right of the page
- Select invite user
- Enter the intended recipient's name, email and message (optional)
- The recipient will then receive a sign up request with instructions on how to complete the sign up process and send files securely.
