IPTV (Internet Protocol Television)
Athletics IT is excited to share an important milestone in our commitment to modernize our facilities: the successful deployment of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television).
In partnership with Vitec and FanConnect, this new IPTV solution replaces outdated cable and coaxial infrastructure with a modern, network-based system for distributing video content. By moving to IPTV, we are able to scale our deployments more rapidly with greater stability and flexibility.
With the FHWLAX complex now fully transitioned to IPTV, we plan to expand this solution to Jones Hill House (JHH) this summer and other athletic facilities in the near future. This rollout ensures consistent, high-quality video delivery throughout our athletic footprint.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to bring modern technology to our venues and improve the day-to-day operations across our facilities!
Fan Engagement Upgrades - Xfinity Center
Athletics IT continues to spearhead significant technological enhancements to the fan experience at the Xfinity Center in collaboration with FanConnect.
An initiative that went live at the start of the 2024-2025 basketball season, media players throughout the concourse displays, concession stands, the President’s Suite, and the Chesapeake Suite were upgraded to FanConnect's FC5 media players. This upgrade ensures high-quality, reliable video content is consistently delivered across the facility, enhancing the visual experience for all attendees.
In the concourse, each display is now equipped with a custom L-Wrap, designed to showcase gameday and season sponsors. This enhancement not only improves the aesthetic appeal of the concourse but also provides an additional revenue stream in partnership with Maryland Sports Properties.
A notable addition to this project is the installation of custom loge tablets within both the President’s Suite and the Chesapeake Suite. These tablets utilize IPTV technology to stream live channels directly to the suites, allowing guests to have an elevated experience. These loge tablets are also equipped with live data feeds, showing notable statistics for the live game at hand.
Furthermore, both video walls at the grand brick entrances have been upgraded with new encoders, replacing decade-old content and revitalizing the digital experience for fans entering the arena. These video walls will continue to receive annual content updates as part of our ongoing partnership with FanConnect, ensuring that the visual presentation remains current and engaging.
With these projects in the past, Athletics IT is looking to foster this partnership even more forward towards other athletic facilities, notably SECU Stadium and the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center.
Advancing Conference Room Standardization Across Athletic Facilities
In alignment with our commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and collaboration across Maryland Athletics, the Athletics Department is pleased to announce a strategic initiative to standardize conference room technology within our administrative units.
As hybrid and remote engagements, partnerships, and meetings continue to play a critical role in our daily operations, the need for a seamless and user-friendly web conferencing experience has never been greater. To address this, we are implementing a comprehensive plan to standardize conference room systems across our athletic facilities, ensuring consistency, reliability, and ease of use for all employees and partners.
At the core of this initiative is the adoption of Neat Bars—a modern video conferencing solution known for its intuitive design, high-quality audio-visual performance, and ease of integration with popular web conferencing platforms. The Athletics Department is currently engaged in extensive testing of these devices in collaboration with Neat professionals to determine the optimal configurations for our diverse meeting spaces. This collaborative approach ensures that each conference room is tailored to meet the specific needs of its users, supporting a productive and seamless conferencing experience.
This initiative underscores our dedication to maintaining high standards of excellence across all facets of Maryland Athletics. We look forward to completing the testing phase and proceeding with implementation to enhance the conferencing capabilities across our facilities.
Further updates will be provided as we continue to refine and deploy this important project.
